16:45 5/16/15: Well, that's all, folks. My job here is done. Fly away, birds, with macroeconomics under your belt.
It was fun working with you guys. Have a safe and good summer.

Great work, people.
I have cross-checked your score against Connect and Blackboard but if there is any discrepancy between the two, email me with subject line "Econ 2301-02: homework score".
Looking at your progress in Exam Results, some of you have made a notable achievement. One of you, for example, rose from an F to A+ (the blue line in the progress report).
I certainly appreciate your hard work.
20:20 5/5/15: Here is your last Gumbo. If you're in section 2, you don't have to work on Bond Price yet.
21:52 4/30/15: Gumbo is up. If you're in section 2, you don't have to solve 33.17 and onwards yet. Enjoy your weekend.

21:00 4/21/15: Have some Gumbo. Speaking of food, thanks Jacquline for the cupcakes.
If you're in section 2, you can work on Question 31.29 to 32.1 and leave the rest for Thursday.
15:43 4/21/15: [Section 3 only] Nerd picnic is on. We'll meet in the grassy area in front of the business building.
Bring something to sit on (a rug, folding chair etc) and some beverages to keep yourself hydrated.
19:39 4/16/15: Gumbo is up. If you are in section 2, you don't have to try Question 31.29 and onwards yet.
Enjoy your weekend.
14:29 4/16/15: [Section 3 only] Nerd picnic is pushed back to Tuesday due to the weather. We will meet in the regular class this evening.
Let's hope that it won't rain on our parade next time.
21:22 4/14/15: Gumbo is up. I numbered questions as requested by some of you. If you're in section 2, you don't have to do 31.20-22 yet.
Let's hope that we will have a good weather on Thursday.
21:49 4/8/15: Your exam result is up. Go to Blackboard and look under My Grades.
It was slightly harder than the previous one but most people maintained or improved their t-stats (cf. Exam Results below).
The crown goes to:
In section 2
Nhu at 2.460
Kurt at 1.878
Blake and Chris at 1.712
In section 3
Aaron at 2.690 (... he might be invincible)
Montgomery at 1.796
Luis at 1.647
I'd like to welcome Nhu and Blake to the winner's circle. Job well done.
For some reason, section 2's ranking churns a lot more than section 3.
I have been tracking your performance over time (cf. progress reports).
Some of you have been steadily stepping up the ladder: One of you in section 2 went from an F, C- and B- now.
One of you in section 3 went from an F, C to B- (If it's you, buy yourself something pretty).
10:38 4/3/15: Here is the last Gumbo before the midterm #2. Finish it before you go egg hunting.
10:44 4/1/15: I will have to cancel office hours on Thursday for the workshop below.
I will hold extra office hours from 11 to noon on Friday instead.
Shoot me an email to make an appointment if you would like to see me outside the office hours above.
12:13 3/26/15: Fresh Gumbo available.
Just in case you missed the announcement in class today, I will be hosting a little talk/activities titled
"Invitation to Urban and Network Economics: How is Beaumont a Dwarf?" as part of the Academic Enhancement Workshops series by STARS.
Stop by if you're interested. Details to follow:
What:
You'll have a taste of introductory urban economics in the virtual city of Beaumont,
and get introduced to the frontier of urban and network economics.
When:
2:15 to 3:15 on Thursday, April 2nd.
Where:
An open area on the 6th floor in the library.
Who:
Anyone interested is welcome to join.
No prior knowledge of economics is required (that's something you'll come back with after the workshop).
How:
Just show up with a hint of curiosity.
10:33 3/25/15: Since quite a few of you missed the chapter 27 homework deadline (not cool, people... but then it was the last day of the spring break), I have extended the due date to this Sunday.
You'd better get to this one ASAP though. Chapter 28 is due on the same day.
19:40 3/24/15: Have some Gumbo. If you're in section 2, you don't have to do the last question yet.
16:15 3/12/15: The last Gumbo before the break. Eat this before you go out to pet or hunt deer (I'm still not sure what Texans do). Have a good and safe spring break!
12:29 3/10/15: [Section 3 only] Montgomery is now ranked second at 1.9041, missing just four out of 77 (He's been sick). Well done.
19:26 3/6/15: It's not as hot as usual but here's Gumbo. If you're in section 3, you can leave Chapter 27 for Tuesday. Enjoy your weekend.
13:26 3/4/15: Your exam result is up. Go to Blackboard and look under My Grades.
Overall, it was a productive exam in the sense that now that we all put unfamiliarity aside, I got to check what you actually can do, and some of you did pretty well. (cf. Exam Results below).
Here are the top earners:
In section 2
Michelle and Waymond at 1.445
Kurt at 1.372
Carson at 1.299
In section 3
Aaron at 2.341 (He just missed one out of 77 questions. No worries, I'm freaking out as well).
Luis at 1.947
Joshua at 1.080
Good work and I'd like to congratulate our new entrants, Kurt, Carson and Joshua.
The top three students aside, I see lots of churning in this exam (cf. Progress Report under Exam Results below).
Some of you redeemed yourself (One student in section 2 went from an F to an A- (!!). One student in section 3 went from an F to a B- and another from a D to a B).
In particular, all the students in section 2 who got an F on the pilot exam (the purple guys in Porgress Report) went upwards. How about that?
I appreciate your hard work and your effort certainly shows. Please keep up the good work.
For those who got stuck below a C or went down to a C and lower this time, come see me during the office hours and we'll work something out.
21:20 3/3/15: Some of you got a wrong bubble sheet. It's Form #882-E (see the image to the right).
I manually graded for those who used a wrong form (which negates the whole purpose of bubble sheets) for this time but bring the right form next time.
I'm still grading but I'll post your grade by Thursday.
11:48 3/2/15: I'll have to change the office hours this week (I'll have to step out for a meeting on Tuesday and Thursday).
Office hours for this week are:
Monday from 4 to 5
Tuesday from 9:20 to 10:20 and 4 to 5
Wednesday from 4 to 5
Regular office hours resume next week. Sorry for the inconvenience.
As always, you can shoot me an email to schedule an appointment outside my regular office hours.
19:20 2/26:15: [For section 2 students only] I've just posted video clips for review session. See below.
The password is the term that I most frequently use in class.
Good luck on Tuesday.
19:18 2/26/15: [For section 3 students only] You can skip everything after first Four-Way Split question in the current Gumbo. Good luck on Tuesday.
09:40 2/26/15: [For section 2 students only] I'll post a video clip or pdf file for midterm #1 review by Friday (The review session completely slipped out of my mind. Sorry!)
12:39 2/25/15: Gumbo is up. My apologies for late posting this time. Chapter 24 and 25 homework is also up. See you tomorrow.
22:15 2/23/15: Exercise caution when you come to school tomorrow. Incremental weather is expected. There is no need to come to school if it does not seem safe to do so.
As I wrote in the syllabus, I will cancel the class if
Lamar is not closed but I cannot make it to school, in which case, I will make an announcement here (do note that I used to live in Minnesota though).
I'll (hopefully) see you tomorrow.
19:34 2/19/15: New Gumbo is up. Help yourself. Enjoy your weekend.
19:10 2/17/15: Gumbo is up. Just fyi, the best time to try this is right now (or at least before the next lecture) rather than right before the exam,
by which time you will have forgotten some of the material and it will be costly for you to remember everything, resulting in a C or lower.
I post Gumbo after each lecture to help you retain and review the information before you forget.
Ten minutes you spend reviewing Gumbo now is worth 60 minutes or more of your time right before the exam.
Don't wait around and make the most of your time by spreading your workload over time.
I'll see you on Thursday, by which time I expect you to have finished Gumbo.
20:43 2/12/15: New Gumbo is up. Enjoy while it's still warm. If you are in section 3, you do not have to solve figure 5 yet.
19:58 2/11/15: Pilot exam result is up. Go to Blackboard and look under My Grades.
The crown goes to
In section 2
David and Quinton at 1.414
Michelle at 1.262
James and Waymond at 1.111
In section 3
Aaron at 2.163
Luis at 1.176
Montgomery at .979
Good work, people. If your t-stat is around zero, you scored around the average.
If your score is above 1, a happy dance. If it's above 2, there's a halo above your head.
If you received a C- or lower this time, it is not the end of the world (yet), but you will have to change the way you study up for the exam if you want to make it to the end.
If you would like to go over the exam, stop by during my office hours.
The distribution is posted under Exam Results below.
21:01 2/10/15: New Gumbo available. I took up Justin's suggestion and made the font darker here. Let me know if it's better than before.
13:16 2/7/15: I got a couple of questions about the use of PPF for present and future production. I've left you a little commentary on the subject below.
Take a look if you are not 100% sure about the future vs present segment. Study hard. I'll see you on Tuesday.
19:29 2/5/15: Have some Gumbo and a good weekend.
(For section 3 students, here is a link to a Marketplace® audio clip for Tuesday's discussion).
14:35 2/3/15: My apologies for a short notice but there is a passport event (internship seminar) scheduled on Thursday, February 12, 3:00-4:00 pm at Landes Auditorium.
Attendance is encouraged. I will add .01 point to your score if you attend (to give you a perspective, the border between an A and a B was .1241 and between a B and a C was -.1427 last year).
If you are unable to attend the scheduled event, you may fill out an Online Workshop Application form. The form can be picked up from the Career and Testing center, or it can be found on Blackboard.
Then you can complete the seminar later on Blackboard.
10:48 2/3/15: Have some Gumbo (for section 3 students: you can do up to the first question in Chapter 3).
10:03 2/3/15: (For section 2 students only) Here is a link to a Marketplace® audio clip for Thursday's discussion.
Figure out why the US oil industry is consistent with LOS.
Also, do not forget to bring a pencil and a Scantron sheet with you for the pilot exam on Tuesday (the one with 50 bubbles on each side).
You may bring a calculator as well if you like (not your fancy phone but an old-school kind that doesn't tweet or take over the world).
17:52 2/2/15: Somewhat inspired by Nargiza's question, I added three more questions to Chapter 1 supplementary problem set. If you are pressed for time, try at least up to 4 (the whole thing is optional anyway).
Also, if you didn't turn in EconRaid on Thursday, don't forget to bring it with you tomorrow.
19:58 1/29/15: Just posted supplementary problems for Chapter 1. No need to turn this in. Give it a shot after you finish your Gumbo. Enjoy your weekend.
18:57 1/29/15: For section 3 students only: You don't have to do the second and third to the last question on Gumbo. I didn't go that far today. Save them for Tuesday.
11:37 1/29/15: Gumbo is up (depending on the browser setting, you might have to refresh to get the most recent one). Chapter 1 is due this Sunday.
19:39 1/27/15: Fresh Gumbo available. Also, don't forget to compare the airfares.
14:18 1/23/15: Gumbo posted. Try this at your earliest convenience but no later than the next lecture. Enjoy your weekend.
